The spectators are in folding chairs under umbrellas, and the pavement is running with water. Across the way, a church banner reads IT'S RAINBOW SEASON — HAPPY PRIDE TOLEDO. The letters spelling PRIDE are built from artificial flowers, red through violet, on a small white trailer. The hand-painted board beneath reads MONROE STREET CHURCH! GOD LOVES EVERYONE! NO EXCEPTIONS, and the pickup towing it repeats the line under a painted rainbow. The truck signage identifies the congregation plainly — Monroe St. U.M.C., 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo 43606 — and prints the phone number and the web address, which is a fair indication of how much the congregation wanted to be found. Flags fly off the cab. Twenty-six minutes pass before the next frame; this desk does not know why and will not invent a reason. When the shutter goes again, not every float is a float. This one is a rented utility trailer — MOVING MADE EASIER still stencilled on the rail — dressed with rainbow fringe, balloons, and a plywood pig with pompoms. A husky on a red leash walks the wet asphalt alongside. Riders wave hand flags; one holds a hand-lettered board reading WE THE PEOPLE over a Progress Pride flag. A yellow shirt in the near group reads Toledo Pride. Vendor tents are set up down the block and the bubbles are still going. A line of Jeeps comes down a wet downtown street with the doors off, a rainbow-and-white balloon arch lashed to the lead vehicle and a row of rubber ducks along its hood — the Jeep-ducking custom, pressed into service. A rider stands in the open door frame holding a flag. Fifth Third's glass tower is up the block on the right, the EDGE 21 sign on the left, orange barrels working the far lane. By this point the parade has thinned to vehicles, the watchers are a long way down the street, and most of what is in the picture is wet, shining, empty pavement.El último cuadro.
